Islamic Youth Expand Indonesia–Türkiye Diplomatic Networks

The Islamic Youth Organizations Forum is advocating stronger diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Türkiye through culture, education, and people-to-people cooperation. Collaboration involving Prof. Sudarnoto, Chairman of the Foreign Relations and International Cooperation Division of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), and the Yunus Emre Institute, a Turkish cultural institution operating in Indonesia, is seen as an opportunity to establish broader, more sustainable partnerships between the two countries.

This initiative positions Islamic youth as key actors in people-to-people diplomacy, serving as bridges of friendship, expanding international dialogue, and promoting a deeper understanding of the cultural identities, traditions, and shared values of both nations.

Diplomacy extends beyond formal government-to-government relations. It also develops through exchanges in language, arts, history, education, and community engagement. Cultural diplomacy therefore represents a strategic instrument for strengthening bilateral relations while creating new opportunities for regional and multilateral cooperation.

The Yunus Emre Institute has the potential to become an important strategic partner through Turkish language programs, cultural exchanges, educational initiatives, and dialogue forums bringing together young people, academics, religious leaders, and civil society communities from Indonesia and Türkiye.

These partnerships can be further developed through collaboration with universities and youth organizations, particularly in language education, knowledge exchange, academic cooperation, and cultural understanding. Previous cooperation involving the Indonesian International Islamic University (UIII) provides one potential foundation for strengthening institutional partnerships and expanding meaningful connections between the two societies.

The Islamic Youth Organizations Forum can also promote concrete initiatives, including Indonesia–Türkiye youth forums, student and young leadership exchange programs, interfaith and intercultural dialogues, arts and cultural festivals, collaborative research projects, and stronger networks among civil society organizations.

Beyond cultural engagement, this diplomatic approach can serve as a gateway to broader cooperation in humanitarian affairs, global peace, education, and sustainable development. Indonesia and Türkiye have significant opportunities to expand dialogue and coordination within international forums, particularly on peaceful conflict resolution, humanitarian cooperation, and issues affecting developing countries.

This direction aligns with Indonesia’s long-standing independent and active foreign policy, which emphasizes constructive international engagement, mutual respect, and contributions to global peace.

Strengthening Indonesia–Türkiye bilateral and multilateral cooperation is also relevant to the strategic priorities outlined in the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara’s 2025–2029 Strategic Plan, particularly in supporting international peace and expanding partnerships between academic institutions, researchers, and think tanks in both countries.

The synergy among the Islamic Youth Organizations Forum, the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), and the Yunus Emre Institute is expected to evolve into an inclusive, productive, and long-term collaborative framework.

Within this framework, young people can mobilize community networks and foster international friendships, religious leaders can strengthen dialogue and shared humanitarian values, while cultural institutions can facilitate exchanges of knowledge, experiences, and cultural perspectives across national boundaries.

Indonesia–Türkiye diplomacy is built not only through formal government relations but also through meaningful connections between people, communities, and future generations.

By placing culture at the heart of international engagement, Islamic youth have an important opportunity to strengthen the friendship between Indonesia and Türkiye while expanding both nations’ contributions to global peace, mutual understanding, and sustainable international cooperation.

Ultimately, cultural diplomacy should not merely celebrate the historical friendship between Indonesia and Türkiye. It should transform that friendship into tangible partnerships that empower younger generations, strengthen institutions, promote humanitarian solidarity, and create lasting benefits for both societies.

Through cultural understanding, youth leadership, and international cooperation, Indonesia and Türkiye can build a stronger partnership for a more peaceful, inclusive, and interconnected world.
